Requirements
Admission Requirements: Fanshawe admits Carpentry and Renovation Techniques applicants who hold an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, or who qualify as mature applicants with Grade 12 Math (C or U). Applicants short of this course are directed toward academic upgrading or Fanshawe's one-year Trade Fundamentals preparatory program, which supplies all admission requirements for this program. Graduates may transfer into the second year of the Carpentry and Renovation Technician program. English requirement per Fanshawe's institution-wide English Language Requirements table (same table cited on the program page): IELTS Academic overall 6.0/no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT overall 4.5/no section below 4 on the 2026 scale (79 on the pre-2026 scale); PTE Academic, CAEL, Duolingo, Cambridge English and LanguageCert are also listed. Summer employment in construction or a related activity is recommended personal preparation. Where eligible applicants exceed available seats, Fanshawe ranks by preference for Ontario permanent residents, then by applications received by February 1st, then by strength against the admission requirements; Fanshawe's Pre-Technology program is the preferred (though not guaranteed) preparatory route into this program.
