Overview
General Arts and Science - English Language Studies is a one-year Ontario College Certificate delivered in hybrid format at Conestoga's Kitchener - Doon campus. The program develops the academic English needed to pursue other Ontario post-secondary programs, building reading, writing, listening and speaking skills with an emphasis on pronunciation, alongside credit-based courses about Canada that prepare students for success in higher education. It is structured as two levels of one full 15-week term each, with new students placed by the Conestoga English Language Assessment and Placement (CELAP) test or another approved language test.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry to this English-language pathway programme requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, or applicant age 19 or older, along with citizenship or study-permit documentation; convention-refugee students at the Doon campus must hold a valid study permit before their first day of classes. Because the programme exists to build English proficiency, its own entry thresholds sit well below Conestoga's standard college-wide scale: the page states IELTS Academic 2.5, TOEFL iBT 1.5, the college's own Conestoga English Language Assessment and Placement (CELAP) score of 20, or PTE Academic 20 as acceptable evidence. All admitted applicants must then sit the CELAP test, at a fee of 95 dollars plus HST, to be placed into one of the programme's two levels, unless they hold an approved alternative placement certificate that can be submitted in its place.
