Product Design is a three-year Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) technical program at Dawson College that trains students to develop consumer products from initial sketches through technical drawings to physical models. The curriculum builds skills in design methodology, physical and virtual concept modelling, and validating a design's functionality and usage, alongside presenting concepts through visual presentations and technical documentation. Project-based coursework uses professional digital drawing tablets, laser cutting, 3D printing and 3D scanning equipment in dedicated workshops. Graduates may apply for accreditation with the Ordre des technologues professionnels du Quebec. The program suits students interested in industrial design, prototyping and product development. Graduates work as product design technicians, CAD technicians or model makers in consulting and manufacturing, and some continue to university studies in design-related fields. Admission requires Secondary IV mathematics and science, a letter of intent, a portfolio and a drawing exercise.
