Overview
The Career and Employment Preparation Certificate is designed for those who have had barriers to employment. You will learn how to use your skills and abilities to choose a career and build your self-confidence to enter the workforce or pursue further training. You’ll learn practical stress- and time-management techniques, how to communicate directly and effectively, and have the opportunity to practise study and note-taking skills. A four-week work placement related to your career goals will help you integrate the skills you have practised in the classroom.

Admission Requirements: Career and Employment Preparation is an Open Enrolment programme, so it falls under the College's General College Admission Requirements: applicants must satisfy at least one of the standard criteria (British Columbia secondary-school graduation or equivalent; one course short of that graduation; being 19 or older by the start of the semester; being 17 with at least a year out of school; or completion of a special-needs programme after 12 years of schooling) plus the College's English Language Proficiency requirement. On top of that College-wide baseline, the programme's own page adds one further step: a preliminary interview with the instructor is required for acceptance into the program. No minimum grade, language-test score, or portfolio beyond the College's general requirement is stated on the programme's own page.
Application Details
Start Date:Douglas runs three fifteen-week semesters a year: Fall from September to December, Winter from January to April and Summer from May to August. The programme page lists intakes in Fall (September) and Winter (January). The Fall 2026 semester began on 8 September 2026 and Winter 2027 classes begin on 4 January 2027.
