Overview

This apprenticeship allows people already working in the developmental services field to pursue a formal Certificate credential (program code DSA1) on a part-time basis while continuing to work. Coursework takes a biopsychosocial approach to supporting people with developmental disabilities, covering mental and physical health, interpersonal skills, teaching strategies, and positive behaviour supports. The part-time program is delivered virtually, with online classes held during the day. As an apprenticeship, it is administered through Skilled Trades Ontario rather than the standard college application process, and applicants must already be employed with a sponsoring employer before registering. The program is offered by Fanshawe College.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants must first secure a sponsor/employer in the developmental services worker trade, then complete a registered training agreement through Skilled Trades Ontario. This is an apprenticeship program and cannot be applied to through ontariocolleges.ca.
