Program details

Overview

This program opens with a pre-placement course that prepares students for their first CICE field placement, matched to each student's area of concentration. Coursework covers professional verbal and non-verbal interpersonal skills, basic resume preparation, health and safety prerequisites for safe work, and the process for obtaining a Vulnerable Sector Screening, along with orientation to local transit schedules. Students also study why teamwork and attitude matter on the job and complete interviews with Fanshawe College partners to secure their placement.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This program is limited to domestic applicants (Canadian citizens, permanent residents, protected persons and Convention refugees); the page states no international intake. Academic entry requires an OSSD or Ontario Secondary School Certificate with curriculum modification, or equivalent, or admission as a mature applicant. Selection is a two-stage process beyond the OCAS application: applicants complete an Advocate Reference Form, a resume, and an independent interview. Where places are limited, Fanshawe ranks applicants by Ontario-residency preference, application receipt date against the February 1 deadline, achievement against the admission requirements, and combined advocate-questionnaire and interview scores, with a threshold of 70 out of 100 on the comprehension exercise and combined assessment; top scorers are admitted first and others waitlisted. No standardized English-test table is published for this program.

Application Details

Start Date: September
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for Fall 2027 entry, applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, after which later applications are assessed on a first-come basis until seats fill; non-competitive programs begin receiving offers from 1 November 2026, competitive-program offers go out by 30 March 2027, and 1 May 2027 is the usual deadline to accept an offer. International applicants apply directly to Fanshawe (CAD 100 fee) and face fixed document deadlines rather than a single closing date: for the current intakes, study-permit and conditions-met documents are due 10/15 August 2026 (Fall), 9/15 December 2026 (Winter) and 5/15 April 2027 (Summer); missing a deadline can mean deferral to the next intake. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
