Overview
Graduates of Fanshawe’s Welding Technique Certificate program have in-demand skills supporting the architecture, agriculture, construction, manufacturing, steel fabrication, and mining industries. There are many career options to pursue, including welder, welder fitter trainee, or as an apprentice in a wide range of trades including boilermaker, construction millwright, industrial mechanic/millwright, ironworker or pipefitter. Students will be granted their Level 1 apprenticeship training.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires one of: an Ontario Secondary School Diploma; an Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) Grade 12 Equivalency Certificate; a Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC); or mature-applicant status. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet a test minimum: IELTS Academic overall 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT overall 4.5 with no band below 4.0 (79 under the pre-2026 scale), PTE Academic 53 (minimum 45), CAEL overall 60 (minimum 50, listening 80), Cambridge English 169 (minimum 162 per skill), Duolingo overall 105 (minimum 95), LanguageCert Academic overall 65 (minimum 60), or Fanshawe ESL Level 8/9/10 at 80%/75%/70%. Students entering via the Academic and Career Entrance route are advised to take a Technical or Apprenticeship Mathematics course to strengthen foundational skills before starting.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for Fall 2027 entry, applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, after which later applications are assessed on a first-come basis until seats fill; non-competitive programs begin receiving offers from 1 November 2026, competitive-program offers go out by 30 March 2027, and 1 May 2027 is the usual deadline to accept an offer. International applicants apply directly to Fanshawe (CAD 100 fee) and face fixed document deadlines rather than a single closing date: for the current intakes, study-permit and conditions-met documents are due 10/15 August 2026 (Fall), 9/15 December 2026 (Winter) and 5/15 April 2027 (Summer); missing a deadline can mean deferral to the next intake. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
