Program details
Overview
Magnetic resonance imaging produces detailed images inside the body using a large magnet and radio waves rather than an invasive procedure. This programme is aimed at imaging practitioners looking to build on existing skills and prepare to practise MRI in Canada, blending theoretical study with clinical experience ahead of the national certification exam. Two 15-week semesters of study are followed by a further 15 weeks of clinical placement at a hospital site affiliated with the college.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Post-credential program for practising imaging professionals. Entry requires either a Medical Radiation Technology Ontario College Advanced Diploma or a bachelor's degree, in either case held together with current certification from the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists in general radiography, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine or general sonography. English at health-career level: IELTS Academic 7.0 overall with 6.5 in reading and listening and 7.0 in writing and speaking, TOEFL iBT 5.5 overall with no band under 5 in reading and listening and 5.5 in writing and speaking (92 on the pre-2026 scale), PTE Academic 65, CAEL 70 in writing, reading and speaking with 80 in listening, Duolingo 135, Cambridge English 185, LanguageCert Academic 75. Where applicants exceed seats: preference for Ontario permanent residents, application received by 1 February, then achievement in the requirements. Post-admission items include Standard First Aid with BLS for Health Care Providers, evidence of good health, a police record check with vulnerable sector screening, a placement agreement, and a completed MR screening form. Fanshawe warns that some implants and devices — a cardiac pacemaker or cochlear implant, for example — are absolute contraindications in MRI: anyone affected cannot attend the clinical practicum and so cannot graduate, and should contact the program coordinator before enrolling.
Application Details
Start Date:January
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for Fall 2027 entry, applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, after which later applications are assessed on a first-come basis until seats fill; non-competitive programs begin receiving offers from 1 November 2026, competitive-program offers go out by 30 March 2027, and 1 May 2027 is the usual deadline to accept an offer. International applicants apply directly to Fanshawe (CAD 100 fee) and face fixed document deadlines rather than a single closing date: for the current intakes, study-permit and conditions-met documents are due 10/15 August 2026 (Fall), 9/15 December 2026 (Winter) and 5/15 April 2027 (Summer); missing a deadline can mean deferral to the next intake. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
