Overview

Graduates of Fanshawe’s Paramedic program have a strong knowledge base and a genuine willingness to help others to the best of their ability. Our graduates depart the program as critical thinkers with a team-centered approach, good communication skills, resiliency and a high level of physical fitness. They are caring, community focused and have an appreciation on the importance of being a life-long learner. Graduates are eligible to pursue certification for employment as a primary care paramedic (PCP) at any community paramedic service in Ontario. As Fanshawe’s Paramedic program is accredited, graduates also have the option of pursuing clinical practice across Canada (province-specific licensure may be required). Other opportunities may include remote clinical practice (e.g., mining operations), medical and research clinics, and the Canadian Armed Forces which recognizes graduates and provides curriculum exemptions toward their medical assistant training.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Competitive program. Entry needs an OSSD, an equivalent, or mature-applicant status with at least 65% in Grade 12 English (C or U), Grade 11 or 12 Biology (C or U), Grade 11 or 12 Chemistry (C or U), and Grade 11 Math (M or U) or Grade 12 Math (C or U); MAP4C is flagged as possibly insufficient, with MCT4C recommended if a college-level math is used. An Ontario G2 driver's licence is required for admission and must be held by the time the program starts. International applicants must first graduate from Pre-Health Sciences before this program will consider them — a requirement domestic applicants do not face; domestic applicants short of the prerequisites may instead take the one-year Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees and qualify by graduating with a 3.0 GPA and nothing below 65% in the listed courses. English at health-career level: IELTS 7.0 overall with 6.5 in reading and listening and 7.0 in writing and speaking, TOEFL iBT 5.5 overall with no band under 5 in reading and listening and 5.5 in writing and speaking (92 on the pre-2026 scale), PTE 65, CAEL 70 with 80 in listening, Duolingo 135, Cambridge English 185, LanguageCert 75. Selection where demand exceeds seats: preference for Ontario permanent residents, application received by 1 February, then achievement in the requirements. Post-admission items are time-sensitive: proof of immunisation before the first class, a police record check with vulnerable sector screening current within six months of placement, Standard First Aid (or higher) current within three years, BLS-level CPR current within one year, an N95 mask fit test before semester-one field placement, and a Class F licence by 31 December ahead of term two.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for Fall 2027 entry, applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, after which later applications are assessed on a first-come basis until seats fill; non-competitive programs begin receiving offers from 1 November 2026, competitive-program offers go out by 30 March 2027, and 1 May 2027 is the usual deadline to accept an offer. International applicants apply directly to Fanshawe (CAD 100 fee) and face fixed document deadlines rather than a single closing date: for the current intakes, study-permit and conditions-met documents are due 10/15 August 2026 (Fall), 9/15 December 2026 (Winter) and 5/15 April 2027 (Summer); missing a deadline can mean deferral to the next intake. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
