Overview
The Respiratory Therapy program prepared me with the knowledge and skills to become a proficient RT who is a vital part of the health care team both in hospitals and the community. The program prepares you for the workplace through theory and simulation based learning. The hands-on learning occurs in labs with the latest equipment being utilized in our field. The professors of the program are all respiratory therapists who bring their experiences to the classroom to help supplement our learning. Class sizes are small enough that you will be on a first name basis with both your classmates and professors. In addition to the excellent academics, there are many opportunities to become involved in the program and a variety of social and extracurricular events around campus to help balance school and life. I loved my three years at Fanshawe and would highly recommend this program to anyone who is wanting to pursue a career in the health field.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Competitive health-career program with a higher grade bar than most: an OSSD, an equivalent, or mature-applicant status with at least 70% in each of Grade 12 English (C or U), Grade 12 Math (C or U), Grade 11 or 12 Physics (C or U), Grade 11 or 12 Chemistry (C or U) and Grade 11 or 12 Biology (C or U). MAP4C is flagged as possibly insufficient, with MCT4C recommended for a college-level math. International applicants must graduate from Pre-Health Sciences before being considered; domestic applicants who fall short may take the one-year Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees and qualify by finishing with a 3.0 GPA and nothing below 70% in those courses. English at health-career level: IELTS 7.0 overall with 6.5 in reading and listening and 7.0 in writing and speaking, TOEFL iBT 5.5 overall with no band under 5 in reading and listening and 5.5 in writing and speaking (92 on the pre-2026 scale), PTE 65, CAEL 70 with 80 in listening, Duolingo 135, Cambridge English 185, LanguageCert 75. Selection: preference for Ontario permanent residents, application received by 1 February, then achievement in the requirements. Before placement: Standard First Aid with BLS-level CPR, evidence of good health, a police record check with vulnerable sector screening, a mandatory placement assessment for the WRIT course, and a professional practice health form.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for Fall 2027 entry, applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, after which later applications are assessed on a first-come basis until seats fill; non-competitive programs begin receiving offers from 1 November 2026, competitive-program offers go out by 30 March 2027, and 1 May 2027 is the usual deadline to accept an offer. International applicants apply directly to Fanshawe (CAD 100 fee) and face fixed document deadlines rather than a single closing date: for the current intakes, study-permit and conditions-met documents are due 10/15 August 2026 (Fall), 9/15 December 2026 (Winter) and 5/15 April 2027 (Summer); missing a deadline can mean deferral to the next intake. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
