Overview

This apprenticeship (program code GMC2S) is delivered at Fanshawe College's St. Thomas/Elgin Regional Campus and leads to an Ontario College Certificate in the general machinist trade. Apprentices learn to build, install, operate, maintain, and repair machines, with training in computerized numeric control (CNC) systems. The program combines full-time classroom instruction, organized across three training levels, with structured on-the-job learning at a sponsoring employer under the guidance of experienced tradespeople. As an apprenticeship, it is arranged through Skilled Trades Ontario rather than the standard college application process, and candidates must already be employed with a sponsor before registering.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants must first secure a sponsor/employer in the general machinist trade, then complete a registered training agreement through Skilled Trades Ontario. This is an apprenticeship program and cannot be applied to through ontariocolleges.ca.
