Fanshawe College's Residential Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic Apprentice programme is a block release apprenticeship leading to an Ontario College Certificate. Apprentices learn to install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair residential air conditioning systems, developing mechanical, electrical and problem-solving skills alongside paid, on-the-job training with a sponsoring employer. In-school technical training addresses codes, legislation and regulations governing the trade, workplace health and safety, applied trade mathematics, engineering drawings and documentation, and trade practices, and is delivered in block format at Fanshawe rather than through continuous semesters. Classroom blocks are scheduled around the employer-sponsored, on-the-job portion of the apprenticeship, which forms the majority of the required training. Admission, sponsorship and progression through the apprenticeship are administered through Skilled Trades Ontario's registration system rather than Fanshawe's standard academic application process, and applicants cannot apply to the programme directly through ontariocolleges.ca.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This is an apprenticeship programme and applicants must have a job in the trade prior to enrolling; it cannot be applied to through ontariocolleges.ca. Applicants must first secure a sponsor/employer and then complete a registered training agreement through Skilled Trades Ontario, which schedules Fanshawe's in-school training blocks once the apprentice is registered and called forward by their employer.
