Overview
The program builds a solid technical foundation through courses in machine trade theory, machine shop practices, mechanical blueprint reading, and applied mathematics. As digital technology plays a critical role in today’s manufacturing sector, students are introduced to computer applications, computer numerical control technology, and computer‑aided design (CAD) using both 2D and 3D tools. These skills are reinforced through applied projects and real‑world problem solving.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to the Mechanical Techniques certificate requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma carrying courses from the College (C), University (U), University/College (U/C) or Open (O) stream, a Pre-Technology Ontario College Certificate, or mature-applicant standing with appropriate preparation. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Fanshawe's proficiency standard: IELTS Academic overall 6.0 with no band under 5.5, TOEFL iBT overall 4.5 with no band under 4 (79 on the pre-2026 TOEFL scale), PTE Academic 53 with no band under 45, or Duolingo 105 with no section under 95 (CAEL equivalents also accepted). Where the program is oversubscribed, Fanshawe gives priority to Ontario permanent residents and to applications received by February 1st, reviewing the remainder on a first-come, first-served basis thereafter.
