The Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) Technician II program is a 32-week, part-time certificate delivered fully online as distance education, leading to a George Brown College certificate. It provides an advanced study of PLC programming in manufacturing, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and advanced programming languages, building on the foundation PLC Technician program. Students develop and test PLC ladder logic circuits and operate tag-based PLCs using PLCLogix 5000, a simulator that emulates a ControlLogix controller and Rockwell Studio 5000/RSLogix 5000 software, with more than 250 pre-built lab projects across 10 simulated manufacturing environments such as batch mixing, bottling and warehouse door control. Applicants who have completed the foundation PLC Technician program receive credit exemptions for seven modules. The program requires only a personal computer and an internet connection, and students with little PLC background are advised to first complete the foundation PLC Technician program. It is intended for those building or advancing careers in industrial automation and controls.
