Graduates of this programme learn the skills needed to work collaboratively as part of a surgical team within operating room settings. The programme combines a theory component with a clinical placement component, preparing Registered Nurses specifically for perioperative nursing practice overall.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Open to domestic applicants only. Entry requires registration as a Registered Nurse with a College of Nurses of Ontario Certificate of Competence and no practice restrictions, a Heart and Stroke Foundation BCLS certificate at Health Care Provider level, a current resume, and a telephone interview; two years of surgical nursing experience in a hospital setting is recommended, but no operating room experience is needed. Both independent and sponsored applicants are accepted. Independent students pay their own application and tuition fees, are not employed by a clinical agency, have a placement arranged for them at an affiliate hospital by the program co-ordinator, and must complete the pre-placement health requirements and Vulnerable Sector Check on acceptance. Sponsored students are hired by a clinical agency before applying, may or may not have fees covered depending on that contract, and complete the placement at their employing hospital.
