Overview
The Graduate Certificate in Church Planting is a 15-credit-hour Seminary programme at Heritage College and Seminary for church planters, site pastors, and leaders preparing to launch new congregations or daughter churches. Courses are taught by professors who are themselves engaged in church planting and missional leadership, combining theological study with practical formation. Students build a biblical framework for church planting, develop a strategic understanding of evangelism and discipleship within Canadian contexts, and cultivate healthy, intercultural-aware leadership practices. The curriculum also covers team formation and leadership, and encourages reflection on next-generation ministry as new churches take shape. As a graduate certificate, it is a shorter, focused credential than a full seminary degree, suited to current or aspiring church planters who want targeted theological and practical preparation rather than a complete Master of Divinity programme.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: General admission requirements of Heritage College and Seminary apply; programme-specific prerequisites are published on the official programme page. Domestic (Ontario Secondary School Diploma) applicants need a minimum 65% overall average across six Grade 12 university-preparatory courses (four at the U level, two at U or M level), at least 60% in each eligible course, and U-level English at 60% or above; U-level History is recommended. Homeschooled and mature (21+) applicants without a diploma may qualify with a SAT score of 950/1600 (or 1420/2400) or a Classic Learning Test score of 60 overall. Applicants from outside Ontario need a Grade 12 diploma meeting university entrance requirements (Quebec: one year of CEGEP). Graduate (Seminary) applicants to the Master of Divinity or Master of Theological Studies need a bachelor's degree with a minimum AGPA of 2.3 (C+). International applicants need TOEFL iBT 80 overall (20+ per section), IELTS Academic 6.0 overall (6.0 per band), or CELPIP-General level 7, plus a WES course-by-course evaluation; for the 2026-2027 year Heritage is not issuing study permits, so international admission is to distance-learning programmes only.
