Overview

The Bridge to Canadian Nursing for Registered Nurses Certificate prepares internationally educated nurses to practise in Canada. Delivered at Keyano College's Clearwater Campus in a hybrid format that combines virtual and on-campus classroom instruction, the one-year, Fall-intake certificate focuses on critical thinking, communication, and cultural competence for the Canadian healthcare system. The curriculum aligns with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta's Entry-Level Competencies for Registered Nursing practice, covering patient advocacy, evidence-based practice, and professional integration into Canadian healthcare settings. A mandatory Essential Nursing Skills course is delivered in person through lab and simulation sessions. Admission requires a recognized nursing degree verified through a credential-assessment service, or current or former Canadian RN registration, together with a character reference and a proctored baseline knowledge exam. Graduates meet the entry-level competencies required to write the Next Generation NCLEX (NGNCLEX) examination, a required step toward Registered Nurse registration in Canada.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants must present a recognized 3- or 4-year bachelor's degree in nursing qualifying for Registered Nursing practice, with WES, IQAS, NNAS, or equivalent provincial/territorial regulatory body documentation confirming the credential, or hold current or former registration as a Registered Nurse in Canada. Applicants must also provide a current character reference from an employer, post-secondary instructor, government official, or comparable individual, and complete a proctored online baseline nursing exam with a minimum score of 80%. Applicants who meet these requirements may be asked to complete a pre-entry interview with the Chair, if selected, and must present a Child Welfare and Police Information Check before the first day of classes. Applicants whose first language is not English must also meet Keyano College's English Language Proficiency requirement.
