The Practical Nurse Diploma prepares students to provide nursing care across hospital, continuing care, and community health settings. Admission follows a competitive-entry process, with applicants ranked by grades in required high-school or equivalent coursework. Graduates are prepared to write the national licensing examination and register as Licensed Practical Nurses, working in hospitals, long-term care facilities, community health agencies, and other healthcare settings. The program is delivered in person at Keyano College's Clearwater Campus in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants require a high school diploma with a minimum of 65% in English 30-1 (or 75% in English 30-2), a minimum of 65% in Biology 30, and a minimum of 50% in Math 20-1 (or 60% in Math 20-2). Mature applicants aged 21 or older must meet the same English, Math, and Biology requirements along with the program's non-academic requirements. The Practical Nurse Diploma is a competitive-entry program, and applicants are ranked by grade point average in the required courses. Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency through an approved test, such as IELTS Academic (minimum 6.0), TOEFL iBT (minimum 84), CAEL (minimum 60), MELAB (minimum 80), Duolingo English Test (minimum 115), or PTE Academic (minimum 73).
