Power Engineering: 4th Class Co-op Certificate

The Power Engineering: 4th Class Co-op Certificate combines classroom-based power engineering coursework with a paid, ABSA-recognized work placement for students pursuing a career as a certified power engineer in Alberta's industrial sector. Delivered at Keyano College's Clearwater Campus, the program covers Applied Science, Plant Services, Steam Generation, and Prime Movers and Auxiliaries theory before eligible students progress into a six-month, industry-arranged work term. Local and regional industry partners, coordinated through a steering committee, take part in student selection, work-practicum mentorship, and program evaluation; work placements may fall outside the Wood Buffalo region, and Keyano College cannot guarantee co-op placement. Admission requires a high school diploma with English, Math, and Physics or Science coursework at the Alberta 20-level, or a passing mark on all five Canadian GED tests, along with proof of English Language Proficiency. Graduates who achieve a minimum of 65% in each course are eligible for program certification and to write Alberta Boiler Safety Association examinations.
