Overview

The Power Engineering: 4th Class Comprehensive Certificate prepares students to operate, maintain, and manage industrial plant equipment such as boilers and refrigeration units, addressing Alberta's shortage of certified power engineers. Delivered at Keyano College's Clearwater Campus over 21 weeks in a blended model, the program combines virtual and on-campus classroom instruction for Applied Science, Plant Services, Steam Generation, and Prime Movers and Auxiliaries coursework with a 200-hour, face-to-face Power Lab component. Students who successfully complete the required coursework and Alberta Boiler Safety Association examinations receive their full 4th Class Power Engineering certificate from ABSA, along with a certificate of completion from Keyano College. Admission requires a high school diploma with English, Math, and Physics or Science coursework at the Alberta 20-level, or a passing mark on all five Canadian GED tests, plus proof of English Language Proficiency. A minimum of 65% in each course is required to be eligible for program certification and to write ABSA examinations.
