The Electrician Apprenticeship program prepares students for a career as a licensed electrician through a combination of classroom instruction and paid, hands-on apprenticeship work. Delivered over four periods across four years, the program covers electrical installation, safety codes, circuit theory, system design, blueprint reading, and diagnostics for residential, commercial, and industrial electrical work. Classroom training runs eight weeks per year in the first two periods and ten weeks per year in the final two periods, combined with required on-the-job apprenticeship hours. Graduates earn a Journeyperson Certificate and an Advanced Diploma aligned with Alberta's apprenticeship standards. The program is delivered at Keyano College in Fort McMurray, Alberta, and apprenticeship eligibility is limited to Alberta residents who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or hold specified immigration status; the program is not open to international students.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must complete English 20-2, Math 20-3, and Science 10, or achieve a pass mark on all five Canadian General Educational Development (GED) or Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) tests, or pass the college entrance exam. Apprenticeship eligibility also requires applicants to be Alberta residents, or to be primarily working in Alberta, and to be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, Convention refugees, protected persons, refugee claimants with a valid work permit, holders of a Post-Graduation Work Permit, or valid CUAET visa holders.
