The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Psychology is the most interdisciplinary of Kwantlen Polytechnic University's psychology degrees, combining a broad base of psychology courses with biology, chemistry, math, and physics. The programme takes a systems/ecological approach to human behaviour and is organized around three upper-level topical areas: research skills, biological psychology, and health psychology, with a strong hands-on lab component throughout. Students complete a co-supervised workplace practicum arranged by KPU, and the curriculum was developed in consultation with employers to build workplace-ready technical writing and applied research skills alongside academic content. It is intended for students oriented toward health-sciences careers or graduate study in neuroscience. Students may complete the Honours option within the same overall course load as the standard BSc, working under a faculty supervisor to design, conduct, and report on an original research project. Graduates are prepared for entry-level roles in health sciences, disability services, program evaluation, or research and design, and for professional or graduate study.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:3.30 / 4.33
Admission Requirements: The Faculty of Arts's admission requirements apply, consisting of KPU's Undergraduate English Proficiency Requirement. Students declare the degree by the time they complete 60 credits of undergraduate coursework, having completed at least 24 credits including 3 credits of ENGL at the 1100 level or higher, PSYC 1100 and PSYC 1200 each with a minimum grade of C, BIOL 1110, CHEM 1110, MATH 1120 or MATH 1130, and PHYS 1101 or PHYS 1120, while remaining in good academic standing. Students interested in the Honours option, which involves an original research project under faculty supervision, are encouraged to apply directly to the Psychology Department; the Honours program can be completed within the same overall course load as the standard degree. KPU's calendar page sets out these requirements without separating domestic from international applicants, so the same standard applies to both.
