Program details
Overview
Lakehead University's Mechanical Engineering program leads to a Bachelor of Engineering degree combined with a diploma in Engineering Technology over four years at the Thunder Bay campus. Coursework covers the design, simulation, manufacture, assembly, and testing of mechanical systems such as engines, turbines, industrial production equipment, material handling systems, and robots, combined with communication and business coursework. Students apply their training through senior projects such as Formula SAE racing, human-powered vehicles, drones, and sports-safety equipment. The program is accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB). An optional co-operative education stream provides at least 16 months of paid work experience, and an optional five-year stream combines the degree with an MBA. The program suits students seeking an accredited mechanical engineering degree with a paired technology diploma and applied, project-based senior coursework.
