The Master of Science in Biology is offered by Lakehead University's Department of Biology under the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies. Faculty and adjuncts supervise graduate research across all areas of biology, with associations including the Department of Anthropology, Lakehead's Biorefining Research Institute, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, the Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute, and the Centre for Northern Forest Ecosystem Research. Research themes range from theories of global significance to applied work in environmental biology, wildlife management, and human health, supported by modern laboratories, animal care facilities, unique field sites, and a range of analytical services. The degree follows a thesis-based route, and full-time students are expected to complete all requirements within six terms (two years) of continuous registration. Admission requires a four-year bachelor's degree or its equivalent with at least second-class (B) standing based on the applicant's last twenty half courses, or a minimum grade of Second Class, Upper Division for British-patterned systems.
