Program details
Overview
Lakehead University's Mechatronics Engineering program leads to a four-year Bachelor of Engineering degree at the Thunder Bay and Barrie STEM Hub campuses. Coursework combines mechanical, electrical, software, and computer science disciplines to design intelligent machines such as electric vehicles and industrial robots, covering mechanical elements, electrical power, sensing, and control, with sustainability, business, law, and public-safety perspectives integrated throughout. Students apply their training through senior projects such as Formula SAE race cars, human-powered vehicles, remote-controlled drones and airplanes, and concussion-testing equipment, and can pursue an optional co-operative education stream. Laboratory work has students design, build, and test mechatronics components directly, and coursework is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The program suits students seeking a multidisciplinary engineering degree spanning mechanical, electrical, and software systems with project-based senior coursework.
