Program details
Overview
Lakehead University's Gender and Women's Studies program, introduced in 1990, takes an interdisciplinary approach to feminism, examining women's experiences alongside sexuality, queer theory, law, masculinity, transnational activism, ecofeminism, and social justice. Activism and professionalization are built into nearly all undergraduate courses, with students engaging directly with local organizations working on gender equality. The program fulfills Ontario's mandatory intersectional diversity training requirement for public-sector employees. It is offered as a three-year Bachelor of Arts, a four-year Honours Bachelor of Arts, or combined with concurrent education over five to six years. Faculty expertise spans feminist legal studies, women's health, and queer studies. The program suits students preparing for careers in law, social work, midwifery, or policy work who want an activism-oriented gender studies credential.
