Overview
Lakehead University's PhD in Engineering (Civil) prepares graduates for careers in fundamental or applied research across specializations including structural, geotechnical, construction, environmental, rock, water resources, and transportation engineering. The program combines advanced coursework with an intensive research program culminating in a thesis, training independent researchers to conduct original, specialized research within the Faculty of Engineering at the Thunder Bay campus. Doctoral study builds on prior graduate work in civil engineering, deepening a candidate's expertise in a chosen research area while developing independent investigative and analytical skills. Applicants must identify a potential supervisor as part of the application, and a supervisor must be confirmed before admission. The degree comprises eight full course equivalents completed over four years of full-time study.
