Overview
The Master of Health Sciences (MHSc) at Lakehead University is a thesis-based, on-campus program designed to prepare students to undertake a supervised research study in a relevant area of health. Students may pursue specializations in Epidemiology, Indigenous and Northern Health, Gerontology, or Social-Ecological Systems, Sustainability and Health. The curriculum combines required core courses with elective coursework chosen to support the student's research focus, and students are expected to demonstrate beginning competence in both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Full-time students normally complete all degree requirements within six terms of continuous registration, while a flexible full-time option allows up to twelve terms. Admission requires a four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized institution with at least second-class (B) standing; preference is given to applicants who have completed prior coursework in research methods, such as statistics, qualitative inquiry, or epidemiology. Applicants submit a CV, a statement of goals and intentions, and two references.
