Overview

The Certificate in Art History is open to students from any academic discipline who want to build visual literacy, developing the ability to recognize, interpret, and find meaning in images across a visually saturated modern world.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission to the Art History Certificate requires BC Grade 12 graduation (or equivalent) for domestic applicants, or 19 years of age or older as an alternative; international applicants need BC Grade 12 graduation or equivalent. No minimum GPA is set for entry. English proficiency is assessed under Langara's Category 3 standard: English Studies 12 / English First Peoples 12 / Literary Studies 12 at 50%, IELTS Academic 6.5, Duolingo English Test 110, TOEFL iBT 80 (Writing 20, Reading 20, Listening 18, Speaking 18), CAEL 60, or PTE Academic 56. Admission to the certificate does not guarantee registration in every required course, and applicants should review individual course prerequisites and submit documentation to Registrar & Enrolment Services before registering; some students may need additional English coursework to meet prerequisites.

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC: for the 2027 entry cycle, applications open 1 February 2026 for Spring (January) entry, 1 June 2026 for Summer (May) entry and 1 October 2026 for Fall (September) entry, then stay open with no fixed closing date until each programme fills or classes begin. International applicants use the same EducationPlannerBC portal but face fixed closing dates: 30 September 2026 for Spring 2027, 31 January 2027 for Summer 2027 and 31 May 2027 for Fall 2027. A short list of limited-enrolment programmes - Nursing, Advanced Entry BSN, Nursing Practice in Canada, Applied Science for Engineering and the Post-Degree Diploma in Data Analytics - set their own, earlier deadlines that apply to both applicant types. Admission is otherwise rolling. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
