This 30-credit certificate provides general training in art history, offered full-time or part-time at the Montreal campus with fall and winter admission. Eight mandatory courses (24 credits) are chosen from offerings on medieval and Renaissance art, modern architecture, contemporary art, and Indigenous artistic expression, complemented by two optional courses (6 credits) in museology and curatorial studies. Students develop a critical perspective on art from different cultures and periods, building theoretical, historical, and aesthetic knowledge alongside research and visual-analysis skills applicable to galleries, museums, heritage organizations, and cultural institutions. The certificate can be combined with others through a cumulative programme leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree, or taken as a stand-alone credential by students with a general interest in the field.
