Program details
Overview
This diploma is a two-year interdisciplinary program in Langara College's Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, combining historical, archaeological, and literary sources to study ancient Greek and Roman cultures and their wider Mediterranean context. Coursework examines the origins and legacies of Greek and Roman civilization and re-examines traditional narratives of Western Civilization, considering how these cultures continue to influence contemporary society. Langara is described as the only two-year college in Canada offering a Classical Studies program. Students may take individual courses to build critical thinking and research skills, or complete the full diploma as preparation for an undergraduate degree suited to fields such as teaching, law, publishing, and business. The program is delivered full-time and in-person, with intakes in September, January, and May, and leads to a Diploma in Arts and Science credential. An Associate of Arts Degree with a concentration in Classical Studies is also offered at the same institution.
