Overview
The Family Studies Associate of Arts Degree is a two-year, university-transferable programme examining the nature of long-term family relationships from an interdisciplinary perspective. Core courses draw on sociology, psychology, philosophy, literature, and history to present a range of interpretations of family in Canada and elsewhere, supplemented by guest speakers from academic and related professional fields. Students may complete the programme as a Diploma in Family Studies or as an Associate of Arts Degree with a concentration in Family Studies. Langara describes the programme as unique within the British Columbia college system. Credits are university-transferable and can be applied toward further study at a partner institution. The programme is available on a full-time or part-time basis, with intakes in January, May, and September. As of the Fall 2025 semester, new applications to the Associate of Arts stream have been suspended until further notice.
