Overview
The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Diploma is a two-year program (six consecutive semesters) offered by Langara College's Department of Early Childhood Education. It combines the ECE Certificate with Post-Basic Citations in Special Needs and in Infant and Toddler Care and Education, preparing students to work with young children, families, and community partners under the BC Early Learning Framework, the ECEBC Code of Ethics, BC Child Care Sector Occupational Competencies, and related provincial standards. The first year consists of full-time, in-person studies over three consecutive semesters; the second year is primarily synchronous online coursework delivered in the evenings, combined with in-person practicum placements. Completion qualifies graduates to apply for provincial licensure as an early childhood educator, a special needs educator, and an infant/toddler educator. The program includes practicum/work-experience components, with in-person program intakes in September and January.
