Medical Device Reprocessing is a one-year certificate program that trains students in the sterilization, cleaning, assembly, function-testing, and packaging of surgical instruments and other medical equipment used in healthcare facilities. The program combines online coursework, delivered in both synchronous and asynchronous formats, with a required 400-hour work-integrated learning practicum completed in a healthcare setting, giving students direct hands-on experience with reprocessing equipment and procedures. Graduates are prepared to write the certification exam offered by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management or the Canadian Standards Association to become a Certified Registered Central Service Technician. The role is a key part of infection prevention and control in hospitals and other healthcare facilities. The program is not open to international students.
