Perioperative Nursing (Online) is an Ontario College Graduate Certificate offered by Loyalist College through continuing education, on a course-by-course, ongoing-enrolment basis. The program is designed for licensed nurses (RN or RPN) who are currently working in, or have secured employer support for, a perioperative role, and it prepares them for the roles of scrub and circulating nurse. Coursework covers infection control, patient positioning, instrumentation, and nursing care for cardiac, orthopedic, neurological, and other surgical procedures performed before, during, and after surgery. Delivery combines online coursework with a two-day in-person lab at Quinte Health - Trenton Memorial Hospital and a 150-hour clinical placement completed full-time over a four-week period. Students have up to seven years to complete all program requirements. Pre-placement requirements include current CPR certification, a completed Loyalist College health form, and a clear criminal record check dated within one month of the clinical placement.
