Overview

The Practical Nursing program at Loyalist College goes above and beyond to make sure we are prepared for anything. The lab classes and simulations are extremely helpful; we got to work through real-life situations that really prepared us because the situations could change and be unpredictable, just like in the real world. The professors very effectively and efficiently prepared us with hands-on experiences.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: OSSD/OSSGD or equivalent with Grade 12 English and Mathematics (C) level or equivalent, Grade 11 or 12 Biology, and one of Chemistry or Physics at the (C) or (U) level. Historically, applicants with a grade below 65 per cent in any of English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry or Physics have not been admitted. Mature applicants may also qualify; graduates of the Loyalist Pre-Health Sciences certificate are considered, and historically those with a grade below 65 per cent in Introductory Language Theory and Composition, Mathematics 1, Human Biology or Chemistry have not been admitted. Practical Nursing is a highly competitive program and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an offer; the program is open to domestic students only. Standard First Aid and CPR Level BLS certification is required before semester two, plus a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check and current immunizations.

Start Date: May (Spring) and September (Fall)

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for programmes starting September 2027 the application opens 26 September 2026 (Loyalist's own page describes this loosely as "early October"), the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027 - particularly important for competitive programmes - and later applications are assessed first-come, first-served while seats remain; offers must be accepted by 1 May 2027 with a tuition deposit due in June 2027. International applicants apply directly through Loyalist's International Application Service or an agent and are assessed on a rolling, individual basis; the college publishes no fixed international closing date, and each Letter of Acceptance states its own accept-and-pay deadline. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
