Computer Science and Biology is a joint-major Bachelor of Science programme combining the fundamentals of biology, with an emphasis on molecular biology, with computational and mathematical training for analyzing and modelling large biological datasets. Students apply through the Faculty of Science's Bio-Physical-Computational Sciences group. The programme includes a three-credit joint independent-studies course and a one-credit seminar integrating both disciplines. Students have access to advising and resources from both the Computer Science and Biology departments, including the CSUS Helpdesk, and can take part in student society events run by CSUS, MBSU, and MIBS. Related majors include Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Biology, and Bioengineering. Graduates pursue careers spanning technology and life-science sectors, including computational genomics, bioinformatics, computational neuroscience, biomodelling, and computational anatomy, as well as further graduate study.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants apply through the Faculty of Science in the Bio-Physical-Computational Sciences group. McGill's admission requirements vary by educational background (Quebec CEGEP or high school, Ontario high school, other Canadian high school, U.S. high school, international curricula, home-schooling, university transfer, or mature-student status) and by the specific programme; grades equal to or above published minimums do not guarantee admission, and the review may consider the complete academic record.
