Overview
The Marketing major is offered by the Desautels Faculty of Management as part of the Bachelor of Commerce degree, available as both a major and a concentration. Core courses cover marketing strategy, marketing research, and consumer behaviour, supplemented by electives such as marketing planning, advertising and media, and sales management, balancing theoretical material with practical application. Students may combine the major with related programs such as Strategic Management, International Management, or Managing for Sustainability. The program prepares graduates for careers in brand management, advertising, digital marketing, sales management, business-to-business marketing, and e-commerce and retailing, in roles such as advertising manager, brand manager, creative director, content marketing specialist, digital marketing manager, and marketing data analyst.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to the Bachelor of Commerce, including the Marketing concentration, is handled centrally by McGill's Enrolment Services Admissions Office. Quebec CEGEP applicants need English 603 (or French 601 from a French CEGEP) and at least two completed Math prerequisite courses appropriate to their DEC stream (for example Math I, II and III for a Science DEC, or the equivalent courses under the New Science, Sciences lettres et arts, or Social Science DEC streams), with final grades, before admission is considered; all prerequisite courses must be completed before the start of classes. For September 2026 entry, McGill sets a minimum overall R-Score of 29.69, a minimum core Math R-Score of 29.69, and a minimum core English R-Score of 26.0. Meeting these minimums does not guarantee a place, as the program is highly selective.
