Overview

The Strategic Management major is offered within the Bachelor of Commerce program at the Desautels Faculty of Management. It combines traditional strategic management topics, such as competition and globalization, with attention to social and environmental challenges facing contemporary business. Students examine strategy formation and organizational change for large corporations, small businesses and social enterprises within their economic, social and environmental contexts. The major is flexible, allowing students to tailor coursework to their interests within the broader field of strategic management. Applicants apply directly to the Desautels Faculty of Management. The program prepares graduates for management, consulting and business leadership roles that require analysis of competitive strategy alongside sustainability and social-impact considerations.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants apply directly to the Desautels Faculty of Management for the Bachelor of Commerce. Prerequisites are Grade 12 (or equivalent senior secondary) English or French matching the language of instruction and Grade 12 mathematics (precalculus or calculus). Admission is highly selective and competitively reviewed; McGill's requirements vary by educational background, and grades equal to or above published minimums do not guarantee acceptance. English proficiency (e.g. IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 90) is required unless the applicant is exempt.
