Oral Health Sciences (PhD)

This PhD, offered by the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences, trains health science researchers in advanced oral health research, combining discipline-specific training with an understanding of one's position within research and opportunities for collaboration. The program fosters integrated care and community engagement, bridging fundamental, applied, and translational research to dental practice through creative knowledge transfer. Students receive extensive technical support and interact closely with professors, postdoctoral fellows, research associates, and research assistants. Faculty expertise spans biomaterials, biochemistry, mathematics, cellular biology, neuroscience, epidemiology, medical anthropology, clinical trials, educational research, and community participatory research, with additional specialties in nanobiotechnology, tissue engineering, bioimaging, medical informatics, and Indigenous healthcare. The faculty receives more external research funding than any other Canadian dental school. Admission requires an eligible degree and proof of English-language proficiency. Fall is the only intake, with applications opening September 15, a December 15 deadline for international applicants, and a May 15 deadline for domestic applicants.
