The PhD in Russian and Slavic Studies at McGill University, offered by the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures in the Faculty of Arts, is a research-intensive program covering Russian and Slavic literature, film, and culture across the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, including topics such as post-Communism, Russian Modernism, and post-Soviet culture. Students belong to a small cohort, allowing close personal attention and a collegial intellectual community, and may receive funding to attend conferences and publish their research. The department collaborates with McGill's Department of Art History and Communication Studies, the World Cinemas program, and the Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies. The program is research-based and culminates in a doctoral dissertation. Graduates pursue teaching careers in universities in Canada and abroad, as well as related fields. Admission is through the Fall intake only.
