This four-year apprenticeship trains students to maintain, repair, and overhaul heavy vehicles and industrial equipment such as rippers, ditchers, backhoes, scrapers, tractors, and trucks. Coursework covers brakes, suspensions, power trains, engines, electrical systems, computer systems, driveline components, and fuel injection systems, along with interpreting work orders, diagnosing faults, and replacing defective parts. Training combines employer-based on-the-job work with annual technical training at the college, requiring a minimum of 1,560 hours of on-the-job training and eight weeks of technical training each year across four twelve-month periods. Admission requires first securing employment with an employer willing to sponsor the apprenticeship, then completing an Apprenticeship Application and Contract through Alberta's Apprenticeship and Industry Training system. Graduates receive a Journeyperson Certificate qualifying them to service heavy equipment across construction, forestry, and industrial sectors.
