Overview
Addictions Recovery Practitioner is a post-diploma certificate at NorQuest College for graduates of health, human services, or social sciences programs seeking specialized skills in substance use and concurrent disorders support. Coursework covers foundational knowledge of substance use and concurrent disorders, pharmacology for mental health and substance use treatment, recovery-practitioner and mental health first-aid skills, advanced counselling techniques, ethics and advocacy, health-system navigation, and crisis and suicide intervention. The program runs two terms and includes 15 hours of community service learning as a graduation requirement. Delivery combines online coursework with evening and weekend in-person classes, and graduates are eligible for a post-graduate work permit. The program is not currently open to international students.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a post-secondary diploma or degree in health, human services, or social sciences, or active licensure in Canada with a health or human services governing body; equivalency options may be available for those missing some academic qualifications. Applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of proficiency no more than two years old. Before the community service learning course, students must obtain a clear Police Information Check (and Vulnerable Sector Check if over 18), a current immunization record, and complete the AHS Information & Privacy online module.
