Overview
Advanced Care Paramedic is a two-year, in-person diploma for Primary Care Paramedics advancing their scope of practice. Students build skills in patient assessment and advanced treatment, including advanced life support procedures, medication administration, obstetrical care, advanced airway management and mental health crisis interventions. Instruction takes place with NAIT faculty in the Centre for Advanced Medical Simulation, alongside clinical placements in active treatment hospitals and ambulance services. Admission requires current certification and a transcript as an Emergency Medical Technician (Primary Care Paramedic). Graduates report high employment and licensing exam success rates and take on advanced paramedic roles as the scope of the profession continues to expand, backed by the program's consistently high employment and licensing exam success rates and strong employer regard for graduate quality.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry requires Grade 12 Language Arts (English 30-2), Grade 11 Mathematics (Math 20-2), and Grade 12 Biology or Science (Biology 30 or Science 30), plus NAIT's institution-wide English Language Proficiency requirement (IELTS Academic 6.0 in each section, TOEFL iBT 4.0 overall with 4.0 in each section, PTE Academic 58, or Duolingo 115 overall with no sub-score under 100, among other listed tests). Applicants must hold a current EMT (Primary Care Paramedic) certificate and transcript from their training institution. Once accepted, students must provide current BLS certification, immunization records, an N95 fit test and a Police Information Check with vulnerable-sector search before clinical placement. NAIT's Math Academic Upgrading Placement Test may be accepted to meet the Mathematics requirement.
