Overview
Architectural Technology is a two-year diploma that trains students to translate design concepts into the technical drawings, specifications and documentation used to construct buildings. Instruction moves from free-hand sketching to computer-aided drafting. Students learn to create and coordinate construction drawings to industry standards, take part in the design process including presenting design solutions, and research and apply the codes, standards and systems used in design and construction. Students develop the ability to visualize and communicate design in both two and three dimensions using current architectural tools and software, and to contribute individually and as part of a team in a professional architectural environment. The program also builds presentation, word-processing, visual-presentation and business-communication skills used to present drawings and plans to clients, consultants and management teams. Full-time delivery is Hybrid, combining in-person and remote online classes, with a Fall intake; a structured part-time online pathway is also available. Graduates work with architectural firms, construction companies, government agencies and related design and building organizations.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires Grade 12 Language Arts (English 30-2), Grade 12 Mathematics (Math 30-2 or Applied Math 30), and proof of English Language Proficiency. No competitive or minimum admission average is published. Alternative entrance pathways include a Canadian Journeyperson Certificate in an approved trade (such as Carpenter, Electrician, Plumber or Welder), or completion of a minimum of 24 post-secondary credits (8 courses) with an admission GPA of 2.0, both alongside proof of English Language Proficiency.
