Overview

In this course, students will develop professional communication skills required for success in the workplace. Students will continue to develop and strengthen their oral and written communication skills and critical thinking abilities. During this course, students will use various modes of communication to complete assignments designed to meet program and professional expectations. Students will utilize a variety of technologies for the purpose of creating a professional presence in a digital environment. Students will develop the necessary skills to create polished workplace documents such as letters, resumes, cover letters and reports tailored to specific audiences. Students will learn to conduct themselves with professionalism in both workplace interviews and job searches.  Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to create clear, concise and coherent workplace and employment documents that are error-free and designed for specific audiences and purposes.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Domestic applicants need an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with Grade 12 English (C or U) and Grade 12 Math (C or U) — MCT4C preferred, MAP4C accepted with a minimum 60% grade — or equivalent, obtainable free of charge through Academic Upgrading. International applicants must also submit proof of senior high school completion with English translations and meet the English-proficiency requirement of IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 79, PTE Academic 58, or Duolingo 105; applicants from English-official-language countries may submit alternate proof. No interview, portfolio, or work-experience requirement is stated for this programme.

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca; Northern College accepts applications on a rolling basis for most programs right up until a semester begins if space remains, but for its limited-enrollment competitive programs — Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Practical Nursing, Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Assistant, Veterinary Technology (Wildlife Rehabilitation), Companion Animal Physical Rehabilitation, and Medical Laboratory Technician — February 1, 2027 is the equal-consideration date for Fall 2027 entry, after which remaining seats are offered first-come, first-served or waitlisted. International applicants apply through the OCAS International Application Service and are assessed on a rolling basis; Northern publishes no fixed international application deadline. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
