Overview
Registered Nurse (RN) Prescribing is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate for licensed registered nurses, delivered fully online in an asynchronous, self-paced format with September, January, and May intakes. The program prepares RNs to prescribe medications within Ontario's expanded scope-of-practice legislation, covering conditions such as contraception, immunizations, smoking cessation, and topical wound care. The curriculum comprises two theory courses, Advanced Health Assessment and Advanced Pharmacology, followed by a clinical practicum course that applies prescribing competencies in supervised practice. A part-time delivery option is available for students who wish to complete the program over a longer period. Graduates gain the authority to prescribe within their scope of practice as registered nurses in Ontario. The program is open to domestic applicants only.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold active, unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, with evidence of at least 3,900 hours of direct post-graduation clinical practice within the previous five years. Current CPR Level C-HCP certification, a clear vulnerable-sector police records check, and up-to-date immunizations are required for the clinical placement component. The program is open to domestic applicants only.
