Overview
This certificate program provides one year of full-time, on-campus instruction in audio engineering and music production, totalling 766 hours across 12 courses. Coursework begins with the fundamentals of hearing and music before progressing into audio equipment operation and repair, signal flow and processing, microphone technique, mixing and mastering, analog recording and processing, and electronic music production. Students also study the operation of a recording studio, live sound engineering for events, and the business side of the music industry, with the sequence concluding in applied audio engineering and production work. Classes run Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and at least half of the program must be completed at Okanagan College. Admission requires B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent, or being at least 19 years old and out of secondary school for a year, along with English 12 at a minimum of 50 percent or an accepted alternative. A minimum grade of 70 percent in each course is required to receive the certificate. The program is intended for those pursuing work in recording arts, music production, live sound for performances and events, broadcasting, or film and video production.
