Engineering Common Core Certificate is a certificate in Engineering & Technology programme taught at University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford, Canada. The programme runs for 1 year, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 797 per credit (CAD 167 per credit for local students).
This certificate covers year one of an engineering program hosted at UFV, intended for students who will transfer to another institution to complete their degree. Coursework spans linear algebra, structured programming, and mechanics, built to prepare students for that transfer.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: A one-year transfer certificate with the hardest secondary-school prerequisites at UFV, and competitive selection on top. ACADEMIC: B.C. secondary school graduation or an equivalent; English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 at C+ (English 12, English Literature 12, AP English, IB English A or an out-of-province equivalent also accepted); Calculus 12 or Pre-calculus 12 at A, or both Pre-calculus 12 and Calculus 12 at B; Chemistry 12; and Physics 11, with Physics 12 strongly recommended. SELECTION: seats are awarded competitively on the average of Chemistry 12, Physics 12 and Pre-calculus 12, substituting the Grade 11 course where the Grade 12 one is not yet done and taking the better of the two where both exist. Applicants without at least a B average across those three are not normally considered, and UFV states plainly that the programme suits students with a B average or better. Conditional offers are reviewed against final grades, and applicants who fall below that year's competitive cut are offered an alternative such as the Bachelor of Science if they qualify for it. PRACTICALITIES: you must give an email address and check it regularly from about February onwards, and respond to keep the application live; applicants are notified in the spring about an interview or information session; and proof that the entrance requirements are met is due by the end of the first week of August. LOAD RULE: because demand is high, UFV students must take at least 12 of the programme's courses across two consecutive semesters - admitted students who enrol in less are moved to the Bachelor of Science if they qualify, and anyone who has already done two or more of the courses, or plans to spend two years at UFV, is directed to the BSc instead. Fall entry only.
Application Details
Start Date:September
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply directly to UFV: applications for Fall (September) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026, for Winter (January) 2027 entry opened 1 May 2026, and for Summer (May) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026; UFV publishes no closing date for any of these and instead admits many programmes strictly in application-date order once every required document has arrived, so applying soon after opening matters more than any deadline. Grade 12 students may apply from 1 October of their graduating year and must send final transcripts by 3 August. International applicants use UFV International's own windows - 1 October to 31 May for Fall, 1 May to 31 October for Winter and 1 October to 1 March for Summer - and are likewise assessed on a rolling, first-arrived basis until each programme fills. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
