The Early Childhood Education Assistant Certificate is a part-time, 180-hour program at Okanagan College that introduces students to the foundational knowledge needed to begin a career supporting children's development and learning. Grounded in the BC Early Learning Framework, coursework covers child development, health and wellness, and effective communication with children, families, and colleagues. Successful completion satisfies the BC ECE Registry training requirement for an ECE Assistant Certificate, a first step toward further Early Childhood Education credentials and registry certification. Classes are delivered in a blended format, combining two weekday evenings of online instruction with in-person Saturday sessions on campus every other week. Admission requires British Columbia secondary school graduation or equivalent, English 12 at a minimum of 60% or an equivalent, and completion of the program's information and questionnaire form; additional requirements such as First Aid certification, a criminal record check, and immunizations may also apply.
